THE REGION

Le Gers- Gascony

Christian Millau, journalist, writer and co-founder of the famous gastronomy-guide ‘Gault et Millau’ wrote a book entitled ‘God, is he Gascon?’

This can’t be a coincidence because ‘living as God in France’ is certainly true in this authentic region!

The Region

Vineyards, not only prodducing red, white and rosé wines but also ‘FLOC de GASCOGNE’, ‘ARMAGNAC’, ‘POUSSE RAPIERE’.

Golden grain fields, the bright yellow of the canola, the warm yellow of the sunflowers, each in its own season.

The Good Life

During the summer the markets are flooded with melons (Melons de Lectoure), peaches, plums (Pruneaux d’Agen), apricots, cherries, wild strawberries, figs, many different sorts of tomatoes and much more.

This region has everything a gourmet and epicurean could wish for; delicacies of duck and goose (foie gras, confits, rillettes) and not to forget, the ‘Poulet du Gers’.

Culturel Heritage

While visting the region you will automatically discover the small and peacefull villages where the old stones tell you about a rich past and where you experience the real ‘Douce France’.

LAVARDENS (17th Century castle), VALENCE sur BAISE (Flaran Abbey), BIRAN ( Notre Dame de Pitié 17th Century), BASSOUES (donjon 14th Century, covered marketplace 16th Century), MONTREAL (Gallo-Roman villa de Séviac). LA ROMIEU (Collégiale St. Pierre 14th Century), MONTESQUIOU, FOURCES, EAUZE, LARRESSINGLE, and so on.

You will certainly encounter the most famous Gascon of all, Charles de Batz de Castelmore, better known as d’ARTAGAN.
